Ectaco jetBook K-12: Reader + Scanner

Eines der wenigen wirklich innovativen auf der CES 2011 vorgestellten Lesegeräte kommt vom amerikanischen Übersetzungsspezialisten Ectaco. Das speziell für den Bildungssektor konzipierte Ectaco jetBook K-12 kommt mit einer eigenen Docking Station zum Aufladen und Synchronisieren sowie einer OCR-Einheit in Stiftform (jedoch ohne Apfel). Auf diesem Weg sollen sich auch handschriftliche Texte im Nu digitalisieren und auf dem knallgelben K-12 anzeigen lassen.

Zielgruppenbedingt hat der Reader einen Haufen Lerntools und -tests an Bord, hinzu kommen Wörterbücher für zwölf verschiedene Sprachen. Weiterhin verfügt der K-12 sowohl über Text-to-Speech als auch umgekehrt über eine Spracherkennung – letzteres kann bislang kein elektronisches Lesegerät und stellt gerade im Bildungsbereich (etwa beim lernen von Vokabeln) einen offensichtlichen Mehrwert dar.

Das komplette Bundle – Lesegerät, Digitalisierungsstift und Docking Statition – wird nach Informationen von Nate 249 US-Dollar kosten. Bildungseinrichtungen sollen den K-12 ab März 2011 bestellen können, der Bezug ist weltweit (allerdings mit Focus auf die USA) möglich. Man darf gespannt sein, ob sich das zweifellos spannende 'Bildungsgerät' über Pilotprojekte hinaus an Schulen behaupten kann.

The jetBook K-12 is equipped with speech recognition and a voice feedback system to help disabled students navigate freely through each section.
